The story of Seiko began in 1881, when a 21 year old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. In 1892 Kintaro Hattori bought a disused factory in Tokyo and produced the first clocks. This marked the beginnings of a company that became one of the world's most important manufacturers of timepieces.

Seiko over the years achieved many milestones in Japan's watchmaking history - first wristwatch with stopwatch, first diver's watch, world's first automatic chronograph, world's first quartz watch the Astron, world's first diver watch with titanium case, and many more.

By taking all the energy it needs from light alone, the world's first GPS solar watch the Astron never needs a battery change.
